Nestled in the North Georgia Mountains, Fort Mountain State Park is a treasure to explore. What better way than on horseback? Fort Mountain Stables offers several packages to suit your level of experience and desired saddle time. We offer guided horseback riding adventures on 25 miles of scenic trails. Our trails include old talc (definition) mine shafts where you can experience Mother Nature’s air conditioner in the summer and heater in the winter, scenic overlooks and waterfalls. Wildlife has been known to venture out to greet their guests of the forest. You could see deer, turkey or bear strolling through the park.

Fort Mountain derives its name from an ancient 855-foot-long rock wall which stands on the highest point of the mountain. The mysterious wall is thought to have been built by Indians as fortification against other more hostile Indians or for ancient ceremonies. Situated in the Chattahoochee National Forest close to the Cohutta Wilderness area, this park offers a variety of outdoor activities. Fort Mountain has 37 miles of trails, horseback riders, hikers and mountain bikers can enjoy. Most trails wind through hardwood forest and blueberry thickets, occasionally crossing streams and providing spectacular vistas. During the summer months children will enjoy the sand beach located on a mountain lake. You can also try your hand at miniature golf on the mountain.

We are conveniently located between Atlanta, GA and Chattanooga, TN (map and directions)
